[TEST EVENT] From Butterflies to Bears: Oaks as Nature’s Most Generous Trees

California’s iconic and beautiful oaks are widely known for cooling our landscapes, anchoring our soils, and sequestering enormous amounts of carbon. But few people know that oaks also support more life forms than any other plant in North America.
In this richly illustrated presentation, Kate Marianchild, author of Secrets of the Oak Woodlands: Plants and Animals among California’s Oaks, will extol the fascinating features of some of the myriad animals that depend on oaks and will discuss why and how oaks became so popular.
At the end of her talk, Kate will tell a story, “The Great Blue Heron and the Chorus Frogs.” You won’t want to miss the astonishing ending!
Please note that in addition to her nature guides and recommended binoculars, Kate will also have copies of her book available for sale and will sign them for you.
Hosted by the Walnut Creek Open Space Foundation.
